Chapter 2
Topic 4
Writing topic 5
Sex education is very controversial and something that has been debated on for many years. As a college freshman, just coming out of high school, I believe that sex education should be taught in both public and even private high schools. One of the reasons sex education is so controversial is that parents refuse to accept that young adults do indeed have sex. Parents however have to understand these facts, by the age of fifteen around 15% of teens have sex, then number then doubles to around 33% at sixteen, then goes up to 48 % at age seventeen and then finally at age eighteen, 61% of teens have sex. More then half of teenagers have sex before going to college. Now the question is when to start teaching teenagers about sex education. I personally feel that around 9th grade, students should have a sex education class. In the first year of high school students began to notice that sex actually does happen and is not this made up magical thing. I also feel that students should take another sex education class in 11th grade because around this time a lot of students began to have sex. I feel that the 11th grade class to go more in depth and talk about the risk. Sex is bound to happen with teenagers, they just have to know how to be safe about it.

Question 4

I personally feel that all students are fully responsible for the amount of drinking that goes on in or around their college campus.  While most of the time it happens on the grounds of the college, it’s not the school supplying the alcohol to the students and the school shouldn’t get blamed. These students in order to get alcohol have to go out and buy it themselves. All of these students know the risks of drinking but still go a head with buying and consuming the alcohol. Every college, no matter where you go, will have alcohol and under age drinking going on. Colleges can have the strictest rules about drinking but no matter what drinking will still happen. These rules might even make the students want to drink more. In my own personal opinion the only way to fully stop drinking at colleges is to totally ban alcohol but that is completely unrealistic. The only responsibility that colleges should have is educating the students about drinking after that the responsibility is fully in the student’s hands. All college students are young adults and most of them think they’re invincible; they have to learn the true power of alcohol themselves and hopefully be mature enough to know when to stop.

Writing exercise 4

When Facebook and the work place mix together it becomes very touchy subject.  Facebook is a wonderful resource to help people to stay connected. It allows you to share statuses and pictures your life but sometimes a simple post can have a drastic effect on your life. Many business today look at applicant’s Facebook to see what their social life is like. If they find anything bad on them, they are out. In my personal opinion I think this is unethical. I feel that employers should refrain from doing research on social networking sites on most cases.  Applicants should be judge based on their applications and skills: not on what they do outside the workplace.  The only reason I would say that the employer should have the ability to look at workers social network is if they start missing work or showing up late. I also believe that applicants should keep a eye on what they post just in case the employers look at them. Social Media is powerful tool; we just have to figure out where and when to use it.

I always tell people that I have seven brothers and three sisters because that is what I consider my ten best friends to be. We’ve been there for each other when life gets tough and for the past two years we’ve been inseparable from each other. My friendship with each one of them drastically varies because each one of their personalities is so different. Each of them were brought up very differently, which plays a major part in why the friendships are so different. The gender of all of us in the group doesn’t really affect us as much because we all know each other so well and whether you’re a girl or a boy, we are able to act like our self with each other. Being able to act like myself in front of them is something I would never trade away but it is also great that each one of us have such different personalities because if we didn’t our friendship would just go stale.
